Women's Auxiliary Feast Day - Saint Anastasia

On Sunday, June 27, 2010, the Cathedral observed the three-fold celebration of Vidovdan, Endowment Recognition Day and the Women’s Auxiliary Slava Feast of Saint Anastasia of Serbia. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy a special memorial service honored the faithful and righteous people of God “before Kosovo, on the field of Kosovo and after Kosovo” who lived and live according to the words of the Holy Prince Lazar: “The earthly kingdom is for a little while, so we choose the Heavenly one which is for eternity.”

Following services in the Cathedral, the blessing of the Festal bread in honor and memory of Saint Anastasia took place. Women’s Auxiliary President Bernadette Polich presented the Kuma, Vera Russo, with a beautifully-framed image of the mother of Saints Sava and Steven. Over the years this auxiliary has been faithful to the spirit and warmth of their patron, touching everyone and anyone who has set foot on these grounds, through the stewardship they provide in Christ’s love.

Another act of stewardship was recognized during the luncheon: Board of Trustee member Gene Bowan displayed the Endowment Recognition Day booklet that was mailed to the members and recognized the newest endowments from 2009-10: gifts that connect us to the legacy of those who came before us and that leave our own legacy for the future!
