Vacation Church School 2012
Learning, Fun, and Fellowship
The 2012 Vacation Church School began on Monday, July 9th and concluded on Thursday, July 12th. Some twenty students from Preschool through Seventh Grade attended, as we learned about the Foremost of the Holy Apostles, Saints Peter and Paul. Monday through Wednesday there were morning prayers and a lesson in the church, music class, playground time, a delicious lunch, arts & crafts and a water balloon toss. Thursday provided a festive conclusion to the week: it was the feast day for Saints Peter and Paul so everyone gathered for the Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Grace, Bishop Maxim, our guest Fr. Christos Kanakis, Assistant Priest at St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church in Pasadena, and the Father Norman. Some students served as Altar boys and Cathedral Dean, Father Nick led the rest of the children in sing responses. Following the Liturgy, the students shared what they learned during the week with Bishop Maxim and asked him some questions; then after a barbeque lunch, Bishop Maxim, Fr. Nick and Fr. Christos joined the students in a game of team water balloon toss! For the rest of the day, the students did what they had been thinking about from Monday morning: going on the water slide until they were exhausted! Thanks go out to Father Norman who organized and taught the children about the saints, the Carrie Bullard and the parents who volunteered in the kitchen, and all brought their children to another summertime week of faith, fellowship and fun!
